Images

The image service provides access to image records, binary representations, metadata, searches, and extension-computed enrichment. All image endpoints are described in back-end/openapi.json.

Endpoint summary

MethodEndpointPurpose
GET/image/{id}/getGets an image record.
GET/image/{id}/metadataGets immutable image metadata.
GET/image/{id}/downloadDownloads an image with format, size, quality, and metadata options.
GET/image/{id}/mediaUrlGets a media URL for an image.
PUT/image/{id}/modifyModifies supported image properties.
DELETE/image/{id}/deleteDeletes an image.
PUT/image/convertConverts an image binary to a requested format.
PUT/image/formatComputes the format of an image binary.
POST/image/search/idsSearches for matching image identifiers.
POST/image/search/imagesSearches for matching image records.
POST/image/search/summariesSearches for image summaries.
POST/image/search/mediaUrlsSearches for image media URLs.
POST/image/search/tagsRetrieves tags for matching images.
POST/image/search/featuresRetrieves features for matching images.
GET/image/textToImagesFinds images matching text through an extension embedding.
PUT/image/closestEmbeddingsImagesFinds images nearest to supplied embeddings.
GET/image/{id}/closestImagesFinds images closest to a given image.
GET/image/{id}/collectionIdsLists collections containing an image.
PUT/image/{id}/runCapabilitiesRuns extension capabilities for one image.
PUT/image/search/runCapabilitiesRuns extension capabilities for matching images.

Running image capabilities

PUT /image/{id}/runCapabilities requests capability processing for one image. PUT /image/search/runCapabilities requests it for images matching the supplied search parameters. Both endpoints accept an optional extensionIds query parameter to limit processing to selected enabled extensions. If it is omitted, all enabled extensions that provide image capabilities are considered. An empty list is rejected, as are disabled or unknown extension identifiers.

The back-end sends the matching capability events to extensions, which write computed results through the tag, feature, and embedding endpoints below. See Computing and updating enrichment facets for the workflow.

Tags

The tag endpoints replace or extend extension-owned tags, retrieve tags for one image, list repository tags, and search tags:

MethodEndpointPermission
PUT/image/{id}/setTagsimage:tag:write
PUT/image/{id}/ensureTagsimage:tag:write
GET/image/{id}/getTagsimage:read
GET/image/{id}/getAllTagsimage:read
GET/repository/tagsrepository:read
POST/image/search/tagsimage:read

Tags are submitted as a JSON string array. setTags replaces the tags owned by the selected extension; ensureTags adds missing values without removing existing values. For the data model, validation rules, tombstone behavior, and extension lifecycle, see Tags.

Features

The feature endpoints store, extend, retrieve, and search structured image features:

MethodEndpointPermission
PUT/image/{id}/setFeaturesimage:feature:write
PUT/image/{id}/ensureFeaturesimage:feature:write
GET/image/{id}/getFeaturesimage:read
GET/image/{id}/getAllFeaturesimage:read
GET/image/{id}/getAllRecipesimage:read
GET/repository/featureNamesrepository:read
POST/image/search/featuresimage:read

Feature request bodies contain typed feature records. setFeatures replaces the selected extension's records; ensureFeatures upserts supplied records. For supported types, formats, validation rules, recipes, and examples, see Features.

Embeddings

The embedding endpoints store and retrieve extension-owned vectors and support similarity search:

MethodEndpointPermission
PUT/image/{id}/setEmbeddingsimage:embedding:write
GET/image/{id}/getEmbeddingsimage:read
GET/image/{id}/getAllEmbeddingsimage:read
GET/repository/embeddingsNamesrepository:read
GET/image/textToImagesimage:read
PUT/image/closestEmbeddingsImagesimage:read

Embedding payloads contain named floating-point vectors. For vector storage, dimensionality rules, similarity thresholds, and examples, see Embeddings.
